This was a section of road where shared space was added following the opening of the M11.

Previously, there had been a hard shoulder bordered by broken yellow lines on this road. According to the rules of the road, these areas are already primarily for cyclists and pedestrians.

A continuous white line was added inside the hard shoulder in the name of cycling infrastructure. At some places this narrowed to 20cms making this quite hazardous.

There is little gain and arguably a lot of loss for end users when projects such as this are seen as being adequate for cycling infrastructure.
